Statistics and tradegy

"One death is a tragedy, one million deaths is a statistic." is a well known quote by Joseph Stalin.

To report that there are extensive abuse of Human Rights in an area, that there are large number of disappearances and use of torture is important. However, there are a problem to transform the report into concrete actions to the benefit for the actual victims that are so cruelly pinpointed by the quote.

Resourced perpetrators today have strategy's to handle the situation and as long as the report are not quantified and detailed down to names, places and dates it is difficult to make a follow up.

One of many examples today are China. Before the Olympics several Human Right organisations reported extensive abuse in China. China responded by international press conferences where they expressed gratitude to the organisations for the professional reports of unacceptable activities and stated that they immediately would take fierce action.

As The Whole World Watching understands it the international community applauded the HR organisations, nodded at China whispering "You'd better", and continued to enjoy the pleasure and benefits that China offers.
